Fort Lauderdale Fishing Guide & Charters

Fish the scenic waterway among South Florida's most elite intracoastal community. Fort Lauderdale's Venetian style canals boast some of the biggest tarpon in South Florida.

These narrow waterways serve as thoroughfares for the magnificent yachts belonging to the mansions lining the waterway. In this affluent boating paradise known as the Venice of America, hot spots such as The New River, Intracoastal Waterway and Port Everglades hold a bevy of tarpon, snook, barracuda and jack crevalle to give anglers young and old a good fight.

When fishing out of Fort Lauderdale we depart from Hyatt Pier 66, Fort Lauderdale.

Targeted species include tarpon, snook, jack crevalle and barracuda. Most of these fish will be caught on 20 lb. tackle. However, there are times when I will pull out the 12 lb. rods.

Take a nice relaxing cruise up the scenic New River through the heart of downtown Fort  Lauderdale and past some of the largest homes you will ever see. Don't mistake this for just some romantic cruise. Hold onto your rod as tarpon well over 100 lbs. are caught in this fishery.

The biggest catch to date on my boat measured out to be 191 lbs.(88.5 inches long and 41.5 inches in girth). That fish was caught in January 2001 fishing up the New River just past downtown. While there are usually several tarpon over 100 lbs. caught each year they typically range in size from 50 lbs. to 100 lbs. Once most people catch a 100 lb. tarpon they will usually settle for one around 50 lbs.

My customers range from seniors to 10 year-old daughters of seasoned anglers. So enjoy the scenery and the fishing.

Fishing in Fort Lauderdale is best from January through April, when big tarpon are in abundance. I will be available for day and evening trips.

During the summer months, the baby tarpon bite is on. This is a fly fishing delight. I can be available the nights the tides are right.
