Jack and Max Kamerman double header reds
|
I've been seeing this school of redfish, down in the bay, in an area were I find the bonefish. Biscayne Bay does not have a large population of reds and it is rare to see this school of maybe 20 fish. In the few times I found them nobody has been able to get a bait in front of them before spooking them. Yesterday Max and Jack Kamerman not only got one but two great shots at them at the same time and came up with this double header.
Jacks fish was 27.5 in. and 8 lbs. and Max's was 31 in. and 12 lbs. We were using shrimp that were most likely dead (I pinch their tails off for scent) by the time we came across these fish.

Thousands of reds have been released into the bay, in various areas, over the years by researchers and the Mote Marine lab has been trying to get samples to see if any have survived. I took a tail sample from each fish and will send them in for DNA testing to see if these fish came from the hatchery.
We had great tides this weekend and I was booked Friday thru Sunday. My customers caught a total of 10 bonefish, 2 redfish, 2 permit and 1 tarpon. We had shots at all three species everyday and Joe Laferriere got the grand slam on Saturday.
