Way to go Karen
|
There is much to catch up on since the last report. The weather finally got nice enough for the tarpon to really do there thing just after mid March. We had a good warming trend that got them snapping. Last week we had a cold front lower the water temp by about 6 degrees and the tarpon took off for a bit. This week things are getting back to normal, but the tarpon are beginning their migratory thing. That means I have to get a little tricky to catch then. The bones and the permit are around pretty good. I have been getting at lest a bone or permit a trip if we try for them. Here is a brief recap of the past month.
Shark fishing has been good this year. I have been catching then when tarpon are slow or if I have kids. Stan and Karen Pigman got a double header black tip shark on top water plugs. These sharks can get so aggressive. Karen also landed a nice permit.
David Hollander lost two tarpon on his 9 wt fly rod. That was probably a good thing since both fish were around 100lbs. That?s a pretty light rod for such a big fish. He did get a nice tarpon on a bait rod.

Spencers permit

Spencer Anderson and his wife found the tarpon bite a little tough on their day. They were everywhere and I just could not get a bite. Usually when they are like that it?s no problem. After a long try for the tarpon we headed the a permit spot were Spencer got a nice one.
Mark Dimino and friend Josh Lambert got onto a nice tarpon bite. The wind was out of the south at 20. It was choppy but the fish were hungry. We got 6 to the boat and had 11 on all together.

Nice fish Josh and Mark

The very next day was totally opposite. The wind came out of the north at about 5 ? 10 and it was just beautiful. Greg Macintosh and his son got 3 tarpon on after trying for about three hours. We gave up and did the shark thing.
Paul Bunchuck caught a bonefish on a wind afternoon.

I know it's a rat but it counts

Tom McKinnley had a little bad luck with the tarpon and went 1 for 6. I?ve been trying different hooks and have found they all lose them. We saw a bunch of bones that day but couldn?t get her done.
I have some more great catches for the next report. Hope to have it up real soon.
