Super Grand Slam

Report Date: June 13, 2004

Super Grand Slam

First a little update on the fishing as of late. It has been real good. The permit are around in good numbers. Tarpon fishing has been a little tough but still getting them. The babies are coming out. The bones are around as well. We have been getting bigger than usual ones this year.

Fishing should remain consistent. After this winter I think we should have a good summer. We deserve it. Plus, the last few summers have been real rainy. We are just getting the afternoon thunderstorm, which are nice and refreshing anyways. We have had great weather so far.

We have been getting at least 1 permit every trip. The shots have been plentiful. Getting the crab in front of them has been the biggest challenge. Todd Doerfler got the record so far this year with 5 permit to the boat. That was actually the worst day of permit fishing I?ve seen. We missed 6 others. We pulled the hook on some, got the hook crushed on one and broke one off. Lots of excitement.

Big bowl of chocolate ice cream.

Now the best part. The super slam we got last Friday. I got an email from my customer, Michelle DeMartino, this morning and so I thought I would let her tell the story. The official count was 2 tarpon( 80 and 100#), 2 permit, each 23#, 2 snook( 8 and 10 #), 1 10# bonefish.

The whipped cream.

Skippy,
Thank you so much!!!! Words can't describe how excited I am to have had the chance to accomplish the most challenging tasks of flats fishing! Everytime you set sail...it is in the back of your mind, but to actually have it come true is purely amazing. You gave us incredible memories that will last forever! My true passion is Tarpon fishing....and I think we both can agree that I got my fill this time. Also...to catch my first Permit (I think I hooked 3 in 2 days) and snap a few shots was overwhelming. What a great fish.....strong and pretty....wore my ass out!

Lots of sprinkles!

The snook thing was a huge bonus...thanks to your eagle eyes. Have to hand it to you....you have the eyes and the sense. I have to be honest I am blind in my right eye and don't see half the shit you seem to see, but I think I am color blind, too....but I try and listen to what you tell me to do. I always wanted to catch a bonefish....but never made it a priority, because I think I underestimated them. You kept telling me I would know when I hooked one.....and boy were you right! I keep remember thinking....there is no way I am getting a shot at a bone today....then I heard you say..."12 o'clock, 12 o'clock"...I gave it a go....and a fine cast I must say. I waited.....waited....waited....then go......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...right....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz left! What a thrill. I kept saying holy shit... holy shit and you were laughing and laughing. I was on the verge of a super slam....a dream come true....an amazing feat I never thought would pan out.A 10 # Bone! Well skip.....like you say....."put your time in and eventually it will be your day. And when it is your day........IT IS YOUR DAY!!!!" Friday, June 11th, 2004 was our day!!!

There's the cherry!

You get to braggin it up with your buddies. I want the world to know that my Skippy is the man. OH...there is a banner hanging in the lobby of the Mandarin.......telling the people that you da man!
Thanks for the pics!!!! AWESOME! Hello to Debbie! Couldn't get on your site last night. Can't we get an article in a magazine or something?
Again......a million thanks!
I will be in touch!

Lady Luck...the slam jammer.

On the ride back to the dock, Michelle gave an excellent description of the super grand slam. She said its like a big bowl of chocolate ice cream, that?s the tarpon. With a bunch of whip cream on top, that?s the permit. Put some sprinkles on that and that?s the snook. Then to top it off you put a big cherry on it, that?s the bonefish.

Congrates on the Super Grand Slam. When it?s your day it will happen.
