Time to Go!
Since last report, the weather continued to improve until yesterday. A very mild front stalled on us and rained us out. The bite was good for the remainder of the week. We saw a lot of tarpon.
Rick Bannerot and friend Steven found out exactly how hard it is to catch a migrating tarpon on a fly. In two days of fishing they saw at least 40 schools of tarpon swim by. They got 1 eater, 2-3 followers, several spooks and a bunch of misses. It was Steven?s first time and Rick?s second attempt at these monsters. They are above average casters and the wind was between 10 and 15 kts. In the two days, we also saw several other fly fishermen taking on the challenge, only one hooked a tarpon and lost it after a few jumps. This is the pinnacle of fly fishing. It?s all in the presentation.

Now bait fish, on the other hand, is much different. The presentation is much easier. Joe Irwin and buddy Mike did a great job of going 4 for 9 on Tuesday. Nice light winds with mild temps got the tarpon super happy. Mike got one on the 14# spinner. The lite tackle challenge. I?ll bet Joe slept well that night.

It looks like our winter is finally gone and we are starting the late spring pattern. Most of the tarpon will be ocean side and moving along the coast. This is always a great time for the bones and permit. May will be even better. It?s time to get the slam.
